INVESTIGATION INTO RAIL FRAUD IN SPAIN

The European Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a new investigation into the possible misappropriation of European funds intended for the modernization and safety improvements of the high-speed rail line linking Madrid to Seville. Investigations are being carried out at the rail operator ADIF, the Spanish Rail Safety Agency, and the Court of Auditors. This investigation comes after the tragic accident on October 28 near Urda, which claimed 69 lives. A first investigation had already been launched in March following another accident that killed 46 people on the same line.
