THE UNITED KINGDOM FACES DEMANDS FOR APOLOGIES FOR SLAVERY
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said he is open to a formal apology from the United Kingdom for its role in the transatlantic slave trade. This stance comes as several Caribbean countries are also demanding financial reparations. London, however, is ruling out any compensation, favoring dialogue, development aid, and debt restructuring for the countries involved. King Charles III, for his part, expressed his profound sadness at this "monstrous injustice" during the Commonwealth summit in Antigua and Barbuda.
